The Koti Chennaya Theme Park is the latest addition to one of Karkala’s many tourist attractions. It grabbed eyeballs from all over the nation when it was inaugurated by the honorable Chief Minister of the state, Mr. D.V. Sadananda Gowda in January, 2012. Constructed at a whooping cost of 1.87 crores the theme park is located in the Kasaba Grama and stretched over an area of 100 acre land. The park is dedicated to the divine entities of the two legendary brothers of Tulunadu who stayed together in life and death against their revolt against the tyrants; the wealthy landlords. These valiant heroes have left their imprints of loyalty and courage on the culture and folkfore of Tulunadu. The theme park has been set up to preserve the memories of the twin brave hearts who were born about 400 years ago but whose stories still inspire the Tulu people.

While you explore the park you will notice that the park has been designed with the sole aim of reflecting the folkfore and it truly makes folkfore of the district come alive. In the south-eastern corner of the park you will find 10-feet high statues of the great Koti and Chennaya. If you have not prepared yourself about the background and entire history of journey of lives of the two brothers then don’t worry, you are not going to miss out on it; you will find story of their lives, achievements and death engraved on the cemented walls all over the park. You will also find carvings depicting the rich culture of Tulu like the famous festivals of serpent god pujas, Kambala, cockfight, toddy taping, fishing and many such important agricultural activities.

To get an insight into the lives of these two undisputed heroes of Tulu, visiting the park should definitely be on your list of things to do when you set out to explore Udupi. The Park is located in Taluk, which is just at a distance of about 5 kms from Karkala and a mere 50 kms from the city of Mangalore. There are numerous local taxi services available so you can hire them and just make your way to the amazing theme park. Visiting the park will give you a feel of the importance of these heroes and also you will get an essence of the Tulu culture and way of life. This park is a must see if you want to really learn about Karnataka people’s roots and beliefs.
